ARA Outcomes brochure
Promoting equitable, inclusive and evidence-based solutions
Launched at COP26, the Adaptation Research Alliance (ARA) is a global collaborative effort to increase investment and build capacity for action-oriented research to adapt to climate change. It aims to instigate change at the scale and urgency that science demands, and effectively deliver innovative, user-driven solutions for adaptation and resilience globally and locally. The Alliance envisions a future by 2030 where policymakers, practitioners and the most vulnerable communities regard the research community as a highly valued partner.
The ARA is a voluntary coalition that includes academic research institutions, think tanks, community-based organizations, donors, philanthropies, transnational civil society networks and multinational non-governmental organizations, among others, as members. Since its inception in 2021, it has grown to include more than 280 members, with two-thirds of them based in the Global South, all endorsing the AdaptationResearchforImpactPrinciples (Figure 1). From 2021 to March 2025, the ARA Secretariat was hosted by SouthSouthNorth in Cape Town, South Africa. Today the Secretariat is hosted by Stockholm Environment Institute and Chulalongkorn University Social Research Institute in Bangkok, Thailand.
